CBC reporter Minami Tomohiro, originally from Osaka, embarks on an unscripted cycling trip to discover the charms of the Tokai region. This time, she aims for Irago Cape Lighthouse in Tahara City, starting from Nomasaki Lighthouse in Mihama Town, Aichi.

Kira Waikiki Beach makes you feel like you're in Hawaii!

At 9:15 AM, approximately 35 km from the starting point of Nomasaki Lighthouse. The journey begins from "Unagi no Kanemitsu Isshiki Honten" in Nishio City. About 90 km remain until the goal.

Under the summer sky, after smoothly advancing about 7 km along Mikawa Bay, palm trees came into view.

"Kira Waikiki Beach" is a beach with a tropical resort atmosphere. It was designed with Hawaiian beaches in mind. "It's the best! There's a sandy beach, and it's so beautiful! This is Hawaii! Aloha~ My name is Minami Tomohiro!" said a cheerful Tomohiro. However, not many people were around.

After walking for a while, Tomohiro discovered people having a SUP lesson in the sea and called out to them.

SUP is a marine activity where you ride a large surfboard and enjoy a stroll on the sea. At "Cafe Goofy" on the beach, SUP lessons are offered year-round, where even beginners can learn how to ride from scratch.

Tomohiro, who had never tried SUP before, decided to give it a try. Although she didn't have a change of clothes for her unscripted trip, there was a vintage clothing store attached to the cafe.

Tomohiro, dressed in an all-pink outfit chosen for SUP, was ready for her lesson! The instructor, Arakawa, who has 15 years of SUP experience, taught her carefully from the beginning, making it enjoyable even for beginners.

After learning the basic movements, Arakawa shared the "important principles for riding SUP." The three easy tips for beginners are: "Look far ahead," "Straighten your posture," and "Regulate your breathing."

Tomohiro, who learned about both how to do SUP and how to live life by looking forward, standing tall, and breathing deeply, finally headed to the sea!

First, she knelt on the surfboard and paddled. Tomohiro exclaimed, "Whoa!" and seemed to be having fun.

Then, she challenged herself to stand on the board. She slowly stood up and moved the paddle while breathing deeply. "It's fun! It's easier than I thought!" she said, overjoyed.

Pleased with her success, Tomohiro smiled at the camera and asked, "Isn't this cool? Do I look like a sea woman?" She even successfully tried the admired way of lying down on the board.

However, when she tried to lift one leg, thinking, "Can I stand on one leg?" she lost her balance and fell into the sea! She even showed a scene of getting soaked for the show.

Exquisite Burger with Deep-Sea Fish, Nigisu

After fully enjoying SUP, it was lunchtime. After exercising, she was hungry.

According to Arakawa, Cafe Goofy offers a hamburger made with fish from the local Mikawa Bay. Tomohiro decided to enjoy a leisurely cafe time on the seaside terrace.

She ordered the "Seasonal Local Fish Burger." According to Arakawa, the local fish of the day was "Nigisu," a deep-sea fish caught in Mikawa Bay. The light and fluffy fried fish is paired with homemade tartar sauce made with local chicken eggs. Furthermore, it's a luxurious burger packed with fresh local vegetables, embodying the charm of Nishio City!

Tomohiro took a big bite! "It's the best! Nigisu is incredibly light and has a gentle sweetness! The tartar sauce has a strong egg yolk punch and a rich flavor, so it pairs perfectly!" she raved.

Tomohiro, completely satisfied, said, "Being blown by the wind, looking at the greenery and the sea... This is Hawaii, isn't it!" She suddenly started speaking English, saying, "I'm exciting! Because it's delicious!" (The correct phrase is "I'm excited.")

A Beach Where You Can Enjoy Clam Digging Even in Summer

At 1:30 PM, approximately 45 km from the start. She departed from Cafe Goofy.

Tomohiro cycled with a smile, saying, "I fully enjoyed summer! It was so much fun~"

Curious about a clam digging sign, Tomohiro decided to head to the coast.

At 2:00 PM, approximately 51 km from the start. She arrived at Higashihazu Coast. When she asked locals, they said clam digging was happening, but it had ended around 1:30 PM that day.

Higashihazu Coast is a popular clamming spot, sometimes attracting over 5,000 people a day. Clam digging is held until August 2nd in 2026. This is the only place in Aichi Prefecture where it is held for such a long period.

According to Eishiro Torii of the Mikawa Hazu Fisheries Cooperative, the clamming time is two hours before and after low tide. Clams and hard clams can be found.

At 2:30 PM, she departed from Higashihazu Coast. She cycled along the coast again.

At 2:45 PM, approximately 52 km from the start. Her bicycle entered Gamagori City.
