“Natural carbonated hot springs” that account for only 0.5% nationwide

The 10th place in the "Aichi Gifu Mie Golden Week Places to Visit Ranking" is "Gero Onsen" in Gero City, Gifu. It is a popular hot spring resort known to everyone, having also ranked 1st in Deraraba's "Tokai Region Hot Spring Ranking". This time, Mr. Hirota, a Gero Onsenkyo Yumeguri Meister who guides tourists to sightseeing spots and hot springs in the city, introduced a rare hot spring.

Mr. Hirota's recommended hot spring is "Gandatekyo Himeshaga no Yu" in Osakacho, Gero City, about a 30-minute drive from the Gero Onsen town. It is open only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. According to Mr. Hirota, you can enjoy a rare natural carbonated hot spring that accounts for only 0.5% nationwide. The reddish-brown water, rich in iron, contains three types of spring qualities. The effervescent carbonation effect, the cleansing effect of baking soda that removes dirt from the skin, and the blood circulation promotion due to salt are said to be good for the body.

There is also a spectacular spot about a 3-minute drive from Himeshaga no Yu. "Gandate Park" has a rock wall called "Gandate" formed by cooled lava, and fresh greenery flourishes during Golden Week. Mitsutaki Waterfall in the park is also recommended.

At "Gandate Chaya," a cafe in the park, there are always about 10 kinds of bread, including rye bread with figs and bread made with perilla paste and walnuts.

The owner, Mr. Okazaki, who makes the bread, is 78 years old. He opened the shop when he was 70. The most popular item is "Kuri Anpan" (chestnut bean paste bread). It contains a whole candied chestnut. The bean paste uses Hokkaido Dainagon azuki beans, which are characterized by their rich flavor. The candied chestnuts are handmade by Mr. Okazaki.

The sweets shop that Mr. Naruse privately frequents is "Emmer Assiette Dessert," which opened in 2025. Despite being a sweets shop, it has a counter, and the sweets are made right in front of you. You can enjoy fresh desserts, just like sushi. According to the owner, Mr. Ando, his commitment is to have customers eat them in the most delicious state possible.

The visually beautiful sweets, tailored to the season, use ingredients unique to Takayama, such as spices and wild vegetables, and all of them are for a limited time.
